How many of your reading experiences been ruined by a truly awful narrator?  For every Simon Prebble or Will Patton or George Guidall, there always seems to be some breathless, toothless wannabe trying desperately (and very, very badly at that) to sound like a woman or a Russian or a drunk; or a drunk, Russian woman.  Why do they do that?  Just read the damn thing and let our imaginations fill in the blanks.
Fortunately, in most cases the narrators, at the very minimum, get out of the way and let us enjoy the read.  Sometimes, however, the narrators exceed all reasonable expectations and actually enhance the overall experience.  Those moments are precious and those performers need more recognition.  As a way of rectifying this oversight, this weeks bag contains five good books by five excellent narrators, award winners all.  I hope you will enjoy sitting back and listening as true professionals at the peeks of their considerable power, deliver high-quality performances of some worthy and wonderful books.
If you are not already familiar with the grab bag concept, there are only a few rules:I never reveal the title or author.  That would ruin the surprise.I  always include five different authors.  That will give you a nice diversity.If a book has appeared in a previous grab bag, it will not be selected for another.  This will insure that you are not getting duplicates.At least one--and sometimes more--of the books have not been posted on this site yet. This is my gift to you, to keep you coming back for more.
